Solutions for SuperWrap Pipe Repairs - June 2014
Share this newsletter

In an age in which we fly in jets made more and more from fiber reinforced polymers why do we insist on repairing corroded metal with more metal which will corrode?

Application Focus

Increasingly the answer is we do not.  ISO and ASME have even gone to the trouble of codifying standards governing composite pipe repairs.  Belzona has been a member of these working groups since their inception and is proud to offer a system which is capable of dealing with both thin-wall and through-wall defects in pipes carrying anything from cooling water, or fire water, on up to hydrocarbons.  The SuperWrap system conforms to the requirements set forth in the following standards:

  • International Organization for Standardization (ISO) - ISO/TS 24817
  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) - ASME PCC-2, Article 4.1
  • US Department of Transport (DOT) - Title 49, Chapter 1, Part 192

These standards provide the requirements for the qualification, design, installation, testing and inspection for the application of composite repairs to corroded or damaged pipework. The types of defects that can be repaired are internal and external as well as through-wall. The materials used for a Belzona SuperWrap application have all been prequalified to these international standards and the design system has been audited by ESR Technology, acting as independent auditors for the Oil & Gas Industry.

By having Belzona SuperWrap verified by independent auditors, we have moved perceptions of composite pipe repair away from being a temporary solution and towards being a permanent one with a defined design life.  In order to better serve our oil and gas customers, Rumford Industrial Group has become trained and certified by Belzona in every step of the SuperWrap system from design all the way through to installation and supervision.  This allows us to completely respond to our customers’ needs without waiting on a third party organization for any step in the process.  We know that in refineries, pipelines, and terminals time is big money and it can never be wasted.
